Ed's got talent. He has been working on animal mandalas for about the last month. I love the way that Ed views the world--his style is unique and youthful, and his technique continues to improve every day! We are hoping to submit one of his animal pieces to a local gallery show. We will keep you updated! We love to see our artists grow. It is honestly one of the most energizing aspects of our work. We see people growing, developing, and expanding their interests, and we all get excited to present them with even more knowledge and opportunities!

Jon is always up for a challenge. And when the challenge comes from the super cool Urban Arts Gallery, he puts in an all new sort of energy! Of all of our artists, this gallery fits most closely with Jon's style--witty, sassy, and a little edgy. The Urban Arts Gallery put a call out to artists for Christmas ornaments for their Holiday Bazaar. Jon made his ornaments--and they are awesome! You should probably hop over to the Bazaar this weekend to check 'em out! The Urban Arts Gallery is in the Gateway, and will be open Friday from 6-9pm, Saturday from 12-8pm, and Sunday from 12-6pm. Jon has earned the Bragging Rights for the week!
Yesterday, we discussed pointillism, hatching, and cross hatching during our Art Fundamentals class. During the work time, a lot of our artists chose to paint using pointillism, but Ann had a different goal in mind. She wanted to learn how to draw a cube like I did in the examples of shading. Ann tried on her own, and then asked for a little bit of help. She totally has it down, now! Ann was so proud of herself, and it was AWESOME to see her be so successful! Ann has a wonderful attitude, is a fantastic and spirited dancer, and always bring lots of spunk to our program.
At CCA, we get to work with some of the most inspiring, creative, and joyful people that are in existence. In addition to that, they continually thank us (they thank US! Are you kidding me?? I’m just glad that I get to hang out with these folks every day!) for giving them the opportunities and assistance that they need to develop their artistic selves. So today, I would like to tell you how amazing these people are. Jon has been painting for a very long time. In addition to being a painter, he considers himself to be a “drummer at heart,” writes incredible essays about his beliefs and life, and uses his wit to create hilarious collages with enough hidden meanings to keep you amused all day long. Jon uses a paint brush attached to a wooden spoon to paint. Before coming to CCA, Jon had not attempted coloring, ceramics, or collage. In the few months that Jon has been here, he has gained incredible control over his paint brush and coloring mediums. When he first started here, we used tape and stencils for his paintings. This way, he was able to complete is paintings to the high standards that he has for his work. The piece Jon is working on is a part of a large group piece based on Andy Warhol’s Marilyn. Jon has been coloring, and PAINTING, inside the lines—all on his own! Nina considers herself to be primarily a visual artist. She was our very first client at CCA and immediately had a love for oil pastels, painting, and clay. At any given time, Nina can tell you the best thing about working with each of these materials. Nina also loves singing show tunes, visiting galleries, and participating in our movement classes. Nina, beyond all of these talents, is also a great encourager. She is consistently complimenting the work of her peers, telling people that they are doing a great job talking and feeding themselves, and encouraging people to try difficult tasks. Recently, Nina asked if she could lead a photography class. Of course, of course! I was so excited that she wanted to spread her love of photography, and also that she has the courage to get up in front of her peers and help them learn something new. Amazing! Bill has been a musician for most of his life. He is especially talented on the drums, which he has been playing for well over 20 years! Bill is almost always willing to try something new. Bill now enjoys painting and oil pastels, as well as our theater classes. Bill's spirit is contagious-- he is calm, happy, and interested in what others are working on. Everybody at CCA loves to interact with Bill, and we LOVE to make him laugh! He's got such a great smile, that some of us work all day long to try to get him to crack one. He rocked his painting on Monday--he did SO MUCH in one day, and we were so excited! Of course, we have many more amazing people that join us here at CCA. I’ll be filling you in on them over time. I don’t want to overwhelm you with all of their wonderful stories in one day! *This post has been approved by those mentioned and well as their guardians. |
